Tchaikovsky’s first ballet is perhaps the most beloved classical piece in ballet literature. The hardships of love between a prince forced into marriage and a maiden enchanted into the form of a swan is one of the most charming Russian romantic fairy tales. The plot is enhanced by the practice of the same female ballet dancer portraying both Odette – the pure, innocent white swan – and Odile – the seductive, manipulative black swan. The piece nevertheless failed at its original premiere in 1877. The choreographers creating the premiere were simply not equal to Tchaikovsky’s genius. Finally, in 1895, Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov created a work of choreography so fantastic that it established a tradition, and most companies to this day still dance the piece following this blueprint.

Celebrated as one of the most famous classics in the ballet repertoire and set to Tchaikovsky’s iconic score, the Hungarian National Ballet’s Swan Lake was adapted by Rudi van Dantzig and Toer van Schayk in 1988, which has been on the repertoire of the Hungarian National Ballet / Hungarian State Opera since 2015.

The epic story of Prince Siegfried and his doomed love for Odette, Queen of the Swans, will be magnificently brought to life in all its original splendor by Tchaikovsky’s hauntingly beautiful score.

Experience a night of spell-bounding magic at Dubai Opera with a timeless classic that can never be enjoyed only once!
