The evening shall open with a performance of Dame Myra Hess’s transcription of Johann Sebastian Bach’s famous ‘Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring’, after which comes Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Sonata No. 18 in D major, KV. 576, a 1789 work widely referred to as "The Hunt" or "The Trumpet Sonata", for its hornlike start. Next, Yan, a globally-acclaimed performer of Ludwig van Beethoven, will enchant audiences with two works from the pen of the legendary composer, starting with the 6 Variations on an Original Theme, Op. 34, which will be followed by the 7 Variations on 'Kind, willst du ruhig schlafen', WoO 75. After a brief interval, the pianist shall then return with Antonín Dvořák’s Silhouettes, Op. 8, a piano cycle consisting of 12 silhouettes that was composed in 1879. Finally, Yan will turn to Beethoven once again to close off the concert, as he engages in an interpretation of the Piano Sonata No. 32 in C minor, Op. 111, the last of the great composer’s famed piano sonatas.
